Just look at this beautiful ore!

In 1872 The Silver Island Mountains area was organized into the Silver Islet Mining District. Box Elder County records show that the first claiming activities in the northern part of the range commenced in 1873. Production from the range was first reported to the US Geological Survey in 1908, and that the total output of the Silver Island Mining District from 1908 to 1913, Inclusive, was 760 tons of ore containing $809 in gold, 110,614 ounces of silver, 57,535 pounds of copper and 414,339 pounds of lead, with a total value of $90,219. It is not known if Butler's figures include any production from mineral deposits on Crater Island.

It is highly probable that most or all of the production was from the Carrie Mack property and other deposits on the south area of Silver Island. Silver Island has been worked for gold and silver as far back as the 1700s by the local native tribes.

The few springs that do pop up are usually loaded with arsenic and chemicals, so it can be used for processing, but certainly not for consumption. In 1910 there was a work commissioned to assess the mines of the range. They reported that the White Star Mine, in 1917, was in full production and running with a full crew.

In 1918, The Alberta Mining Company had acquired 15 claims on the west face of the range and reported great exports of gold, silver, copper, lead and molybdenum.

This 20 acre lode claim encompassing the the Silver Island Mine is for sale for only $23,500.
