The Milk Maid Mine is a historical past producing mine located in northern California's French Gulch Mining District. It consists of 6 Patented mining claims totaling about 91 acres. The mine is accessed via a county maintained gravel road and is located about 20 miles west of Redding. It is located at only 2000 feet in elevation so the mine can be accessed year 'round.

The Milk Maid Mine and the adjoining Franklin mines produced between 48,500 and 71,400 ounces of gold until 1925. Any production since 1925 is unknown. Both mines were discovered between 1852 and 1876 and are among the oldest in the State.

According to information supplied by E.E.Erich, a geologist and mining engineer who studied the mines in 1925, the gold occurs in lenticular  bodies of quartz, the largest of which is about 500’ long, 4 to 10’ thick and extends downdip about 200’. The average gold content of these lenses was reportedly about 2 ounces per ton.

The Vein Material is predominantly quartz containing subordinate calcite, and free gold, pyrite, galena, and sphalerite. a small number of silver in the ore and rarely, gold telluride, was reported by E.E.Erich. The Silver probably was in contained in the galena. Sulfides accounted for about 0.75 percent of the weight of the ore and carried about 7 ounces in gold per ton. Visible gold was also fairly prominent in this ore and is most commonly found in close association with galena.

This is your chance to own a historical past producing gold mine consistting of 6 Patented mining claims totaling about 91 acres, with year 'round access and only a short drive from town.
