According to the U.S. Geologicial Survey Paper #610, the Limerick valley was at one time one of the most productive gold production areas in the state. These claims ( 40 acres ) have never been mined, but the family that owns them has found a lot of gold on the surface by using metal detectors. The coarse gold nuggets were recovered by the owner using just his bare hands. No cups or pans were needed. Water is nearby. Rare earths are also in the area. The claims sit at the top pf Limerick Canyon and into Spring Valley. The road is paved until the last half mile until it becomes a dirt road. More Gold is being proven in the area. At one time there was a drilling program on part of the claims but the owners have no access to the logs. Placer gold found nearby is about .800 fine and often locked in quartz, Popular Mining Magazine has featured this area twice, October 1993, "Limerick & Sacramento Placers" and in August 1995, "Using VLF Detectors in Hardrock Applications". Because this area has not been mined or bulk tested it is impossible to determine the size of the gold reserves but it doen's take long to convince yourself that there is a lot of gold here. Veins in the old mines on these claims have had gold values as high as 4 - 6 ounces per ton.
