or possible partial trade for income property near Tucson or Phoenix

The earliest recorded history of the Gunsight mine dates from November 1878 when two prospectors came across old silver workings and staked a claim.

They named their claim "Gunsight" because a nearby mountain cut resembled the sight on a rifle. By 1892 the Mine was in full operation with eight buildings, a mining camp, and a post office.

The original ore from the Gunsight Mine was shipped by wagon to Yuma and then by sailing ship to Swansea Wales for processing.

The Mine is located in the Gunsight Mountain range virtually across SR 86 from the Golden Ha: San Casino, 1 1/2 miles east of the town of Why. The BLM Enterprise Zone is operated by the Tohono O'odham, Hickiwan District, however the enterprises are generally operated by outside vendors.

Tourism is the single largest income source for Arizona and Heritage Tourism is a major factor. Future plans call for a hotel with conference center to be built adjoining the Casino and other businesses will be attracted here as well.

The owner believes that the greatest income opportunities for Gunsight will be generated by tourists and attendees to conferences. Visitors to Mexico, Organ Pipe National Monument, Cabeza Preita Wildlife refuge and the Casino will stay over and spend. Direct income can come from study groups that are funded largely by generous grants.

One of the attractions at the Zone will be on- site jewelry making using ore from the Gunsight mine stockpile. This will be refined on site with equipment used a century ago! Many other tourist business ideas could thrive here as well.

The Mill Site is the location of historic Wahls Well and an ancient village.

The owner wishes to sell all 14 Patented Lode claims and the 5 acre Mill Site for $597,000. This includes archived documentation of history, census data, assays, and production records dating from the 1870's. He would consider a partial trade for precious metal or income property in the Tucson or Phoenix area.
