The Empire Creek claim is a stunning stretch of over 1 1/2 miles of Empire Creek, located about 10 miles north of Downieville in a beautiful secluded forested canyon.

The claim spreads over 140 acres which focus on the creek and its tributaries as it runs down from the mountaintop. Ancient river gravels permeate the hillsides and near the mountaintops, and these rich deposits have made their way down into surrounding washes and Empire Creek.

Several nice nuggets have been found on and around the claim with metal detectors, and there is great potential for recovering large nugget gold due to the geology of the area.

Access is to the claim is good via a 2wd dirt road, then the Empire Creek Trail (motorized) which can be joined from the top or bottom of the ridge. A 4x4 vehicle can also be used to drive to the top end of the Empire Trail (steep but not rough road).
