The Black Swan mine is located in the Virtue Mining District just outside Baker, Oregon and off the back side of the mountain where the Virtue Mine is located. This is a high grade lode mine and the high grad gold ores are dark, iron stained, and oxidized. Flakes of free-milling gold are also present. In the old days miners considered ore that assayed less than one ounce per ton as low grade ore but today, values like this are considered to be high grade. There is a beautiful adit to the mine that runs about 425 back into the earth. Rich ores are exposed and the floor of the mine is covered with amber colored rocks which were despised by the miners because of their low gold value of 1/2 - 1 ounce per ton gold. Aside from a field mouse and a piece of pegboard, there is no evidence of anyone working the mine recently. Because of this it would be a good idea to fit a door on the mine to secure his investment. The owner is willing to sell outright for $24,500 cash. If you have been looking for a nice mine in a temperate climate, be sure to take a home mobliehard look at the Black Swan Mine.
